Sacramental Arrangements

14th Jul 2020

First Penance, Holy Communion and Confirmation

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to be able to inform you that dates have been agreed for the sacraments of First Confession, Holy Communion and Confirmation to take place for our pupils who missed out in May due to Covid 19. These are still exceptional circumstances and we are directed by public health guidance which will restrict the numbers allowed into the church at any one time. This may change over the coming months and that will be taken into account, if it happens.

Confirmation

The sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Saturday 22nd August at 11am in Forkhill Church. Only the pupils from our school will be present on this occasion and at the moment each pupil will be accompanied by 3 others which must include their sponsor.

Primary 7 pupils will be required to come back to school on Thursday 20th August at 2pm for a practice in the church with Mr. Hannaway.

Sacraments of First Penance and Holy Communion

First Penance will take place in Forkhill Church on Tuesday 29th September at 7.30pm and Holy Communion will take place on Saturday 3rd October at 11am. Again at this stage, it is envisaged that numbers will be restricted with a maximum of 3 people from the child’s family accompanying him/her. I know that this is not ideal, however the school is required to follow church guidelines on maximum seating arrangements.

I fully appreciate that this is an exceptional year and set of circumstances that we are dealing with and we must be mindful that arrangements may change as we proceed through the summer. I have had two meetings with Fr. Aidan over the past few weeks and we both had to wait until we received approval from Archbishop Eamon Martin before we were able to make these dates public. However, I am pleased with the arrangements in place that will finally allow our Primary 4 and 7 pupils to prepare for and then celebrate the sacraments with their family and school friends.

I want to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding on this matter.

Regards

Kevin Woods
