Pat’s Water Talk

30th Sep 2025

Our P4-7 children had a wonderful and informative visit from Pat, an expert on all things water! He taught the children about the amazing water cycle, explaining how water moves around our planet and why it's such a precious resource.

Pat gave us a fascinating insight into how Northern Ireland Water works to keep our water clean and safe. The children were amazed to learn about the extensive process of cleaning our drinking water before it gets to our homes. Equally important, he explained the complex system for cleaning wastewater after it leaves our houses and goes down the drain.

A key part of the talk focused on what we shouldn't flush down the toilet or pour down the sink. Pat stressed the dangers of putting things like oil, fats, and grease down the drain, as they can cause blockages.

To help the children put what they learned into practice, Pat generously gave everyone a reusable, refillable water bottle to use. This gift is a brilliant way to encourage them to reduce their use of single-use plastic bottles, which helps to protect our environment and saves money in the long run. We hope this simple, practical gift will serve as a constant reminder of the valuable lessons they learned about water conservation and keeping our planet healthy.

A huge thank you to Pat for such a brilliant and educational talk!
